I’m not much of a coffee enthusiast myself but my boyfriend introduced me to a widely popular and loved coffee beverage a while ago. It was on one of the hangover mornings when I woke up to find myself with a strange and NEW tattoo on my forearm that said “Sexy mama” in a language foreign to me. I couldn’t scrub off the tattoo but found myself my new morning favorite flat white beverage. Safe to say my mornings don’t essentially start without a classic delicious flat white.
There’s something about Flat white that sets it apart from other milk-based coffees. It is believed that this particular milky coffee originated in New Zealand and Australia. The amount of milk added is what gives the coffee a rich and creamy texture and taste. If you’re wondering how is FLAT WHITE different from a LATTE, then let me tell you. A flat white has a relatively higher ratio of coffee to milk compared to a latte.
Ingredients:
- 18g ground espresso (1 espresso pod)
- 100ml milk
- Your favorite coffee cup with a 150-200ml capacity.
Directions:
- Use your coffee machine and make 35ml espresso. Pour it to fill around 1/3rd of the cup.
- Take a pitcher and add milk to it. Now, steam the milk to about 140 degrees. It is ideal to steam the milk using a steamer attachment. When the milk has around 1-2cm of foam on top, it’s time to pour the milk in the cup steadily.
- Notice the volume of the cup rising slowly and bring the pitcher/ jug closer to the surface of the drink and focus to pour in more at the center.
- When you can see the jug touching the surface of the beverage, position it in a tilted angle to speed up the pouring of milk.
- Speeding up the process will cause the milk to hit the back of cup. This will create a pattern on top of the coffee’s surface.
This delicious creamy beverage will light up your breakfast tables!
